Science
The world of Daverana is built upon the ruins of an advanced technological society. Although most of science has been lost, a new science has risen that combined the surviving scraps with magic and new ways of doing things.
Bio-Alchemy
A form of biochemistry that combines the use of magic and the magical applications plants, drugs, and other substances that affect the body of organic creatures with true chemistry, and psi-technologies like those of the Readers who can see into a body down to the molecular levels. Notably, it includes a specialization into the ways that mages and magical creatures have a different bio-alchemy from normal humans.
Bio-Magicalist
An expert on the bio-alchemy, character patterns, breeding and social aspects of magical creatures.
Toxicology.
Typically a branch of bio-alchemy specializing in the creation of both poisons and antidotes. The best known practioners are the Tyrins family of Waejontor. The Waejontori produce a great many masters of this craft.
Examples of alternate technology
Golden Preserving Bottles.
A bottle enhanced by magic to preserve its contents. It was developed by the sa'necari as a way of keeping blood in the same condition as it had come from the bodies of their victims. The Assassins' Guild of Creeya learned to replicate the bottles and use them for a variety of purposes.
Crystal Technology
The stone mages of Iradrim pioneered the alternative use of crystal. Assassins' Guild coroners use crystalling to preserve blood and tissue samples of suspected murder victims while conducting their investigations. The Sharani use it as a way of preserving and implanting semen from registered studs. Mages all over the continent produce crystals to hold memories and spells, as well as contraceptive uses. Certain types of crystals can be implanted in the body to cause sterilization.
