Creeya

Creeya is a realm that lies far to the north with only the lands of the Winter Mages of the Iron Glacier beyond it.

Creeya is a modified theocracy under the rule of the Grand Master of the Assassins' Guild. The Guild serves Hadjys the Dark Judge, a nethergod whose sphere of authority is just punishment and vengeance. Supreme power is held by the Grand Master, his three Lord-Lieutenants in the Guild, and a council of lords. Generally the council, which includes the Grand Master and his lieutenants, strive for a consensus, however the Grand Master holds a veto over the council. However, in some matters, the Grand Master can be overruled by the High Patriarch of Hadjys. A series of checks and balances exist between the three branches of the Creeyan government represented by the Grand Master, the Council of Lords, and the High Patriarch.

The day to day running of each holding is given to a lord. The holdings are roughly equivalent to a barony with several villages, towns, and cities in each one. Primogeniture is practiced within a patriarchal foundation. Some exceptions have been made by special decree as with the Holding of Mistdale, which belongs to a Sharani family and the right for their eldest to inherit the lands and titles irregardless of gender. There have been only two female Grand Masters in all of Creeya's long history, they had unusual influence and presence in order to ascend to the highest position. Only one Grand Master was ever usurped and that was because it was proven that he had betrayed his god and his people. The usurpation itself was bloodless and the former Grand Master was forced to spend the rest of his days as a penitent confined to the grounds of the High Temple.

Unless a lord or an appointed member of his family resides in a specific city/town/village, they are run by a council that reports to the lord whose holding they are part of.

When Hadjys declared the founding of Creeya, he chose from diverse peoples and races to populate it based on the strength of their faith in him. So there are a great number of variant lifestyles within the ranks of the populace.

The Guild serves as an elite military unit within the realm and they are posted throughout the realm to assist both the temples and the lords in keeping order. Beyond the realm, the Guildsmyn are assigned to the temples in units to serve the commands of their god. They are pledged not to harm the innocent. They can be hired through either a temple, or in a realm that does not have a temple through a local chieftain. The rule of thumb on hiring them is that a) the mark must be guilty of the crime, b) the temple or chieftain gets paid, and c) it will not destabilize a realm without good cause. They work on a sliding scale and a poor woman might buy their services by sweeping the temple floors for a period of time, while a rich person might find the price extremely steep. The souls of those they kill are sent to their god for punishment and cleansing.

Another aspect of the Guild is that they rear, breed, and train giant flying creatures so that they can move more swiftly, everything from rocs to perytons to gryphons, and Smiurgs.
